Last paragraph. Once we have all the facts out there, and a decision is made on strike action (depending on what HMG does, and whether the mandate from earlier in the year is used again) then I would be delighted for CUSU to tell us what is going on, and be the facilitator that a students union should be. Till then, jumping to conclusions isn't terribly bright.

But then again, reading all the utter tripe written about my article, it seems to be something that the extremists like to do.

God bless.Charlie Bellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14533905961031329419noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8698973430925040234.post-78587587494141062492011-10-23T23:01:43.181+01:002011-10-23T23:01:43.181+01:00"UCU hasn’t even decided to strike"

'The UCU, incidentally, are still in negotiations.' Factually accurate.

---

Looking for facts normally involves looking at different sources, and as you say, in this case would be aided by asking someone at UCU. So I checked their press release. And I was right. Again. So my piece, and all it says, still stands. Context is everything.

It's true that UCU are currently engaged in action short of a strike. They will be out on strike on 30th November.

Here's a real newspaper:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2011/sep/14/unions-ballot-pension-reforms-action

If you're looking for facts though, your best bet might be to actually ask someone in UCU what the situation is.BGhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08297218267411335782noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8698973430925040234.post-83023099258539486422011-10-23T21:56:38.039+01:002011-10-23T21:56:38.039+01:00'BG' - well yes, I should get my 'fact...'BG' - well yes, I should get my 'facts' from Varsity - why would I read a real newspaper or look at news from the real world.

The problem is, Varsity is WRONG. From their own website: http://www.ucu.org.uk/index.cfm?articleid=5738 'We remain committed to a negotiated settlement, but if the government doesn't reconsider its approach then we will look at further action'. They have not yet chosen to strike, but are considering it, as stated correctly in my article.

And here it is from NCAFC: http://anticuts.com/2011/10/17/showing-solidarity-with-the-ucu/. And I quote 'Last week staff in the Universities and Colleges Union (UCU) begin a campaign of action short of a strike'.

Stop putting out misinformation and lies, and start engaging with the truth. As I said before - get your facts straight.Charlie Bellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14533905961031329419noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8698973430925040234.post-38481207023391871652011-10-23T20:30:54.357+01:002011-10-23T20:30:54.357+01:00"UCU hasn’t even decided to strike"

I think what your learned friend meant to accuse you of was "ablism" or even "using language that belies prejudices about people with a disability".

"As BMA Cambridge Med Students Chair" - experience tells me you don't enjoy being sat on by medical students.Acting Chairmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16540808273617578431noreply@blogger.com
